There are multiple bands with this name: 1) A five-piece post-punk band from Bristol, England, who formed in 1983 and released one 7", "Tunnel Child" 2) A Rock'n'roll dance band based in Carlton, Melbourne, Australia. We play rock'n'roll, garage, soul and Kanye West influenced music and we all like to sing at the same time.

The Statics

Forming in 2008, the Statics wasted no time getting things started - writing, recording and releasing a debut album by mid 2008 (CandyPants Records), which was then followed by hundreds of hours in a 12 seater van playing every pub, club, radio station, school, dive, all ages festival and house party possible. “We didn’t want to play it safe. We didn’t just wanna be another ‘myspace’ or ‘weekend’ band. We figured fuck it! Lets record an album, get in the van and sell some discs and if we’re lucky a t-shirt or two!” bassist Pat McKenna explains.

Artist Type:

Thee Oh Sees

John Dwyer (of Coachwhips, Pink & Brown, Landed, Yikes, Burmese, The Hospitals, Sword & Sandals, Superpit, The Drums, The Trawgs, Zeigenbock Kopf and Dig That Body Up It's Alive!) is in Thee Oh Sees and he seems to be making this band the most serious project. He's done everything from noise to death metal to punk and now Thee Oh Sees. Thee Oh Sees are no doubt the lightest of his excursions, but in contrast to the rest of his resume one could surmise that there are significant reasons for the change.

Artist Type:

The Preachers

To compare Sydney newcomers The Preachers to any musical acts would be unfair. Not that they don’t have their influences (The Band, The Stones, Nick Cave) but their live show is more reminiscent of a religious cult. The howling voodoo high priest Gideon Bensen to the Magdeline-esque passion of Isabella Manfredi the voices in this band stir up a religious fervor which makes you want to drink the kool aid and wait for the spaceship.

Artist Type:

Beach Fossils

The jangly, self-recorded ramblings of Brooklyn’s Dustin Payseur, Beach Fossils offers hauntingly catchy tunes that blend the energy of an impulsive road trip with the melodious wandering of a lucid dream. Sun drenched riffs, kaleidoscopic rhythms and hazy lyrics saturate Beach Fossils' first release, a s/t album with a carefree vibe perfectly summed up through song titles such as "Daydream," "Vacation," and "Lazy Day."

The Mess Hall

The Mess Hall are a two-piece rock and roll combo based in Sydney, New South Wales that formed in 2001. Widely respected for their live shows, The Mess Hall have toured Australia extensively both in their own right and supporting bands such as You Am I, Jet and The Strokes. They have also toured the US and Japan, notably with fellow Sydney band, Wolfmother. Outside the driving drums and guitar of The Mess Hall, singer/guitarist Jed Kurzel is an acoustic artist of some note. Drummer Cec Condon is a veteran of the Brisbane music scene.

Iowa

For More Info On Melbourne Band Iowa Check out www.iowasounds.net
www.myspace.com Iowa: a place, sure, but also a state of mind. It’s a place somewhere between shoegaze and psychedelia, a spacious soundscape of reverb, feedback and dirty, dirty fuzz that could have provided a home for everyone from Spacemen 3 to the Jesus & Mary Chain. And it’s a state of mind shared by the Melbourne three-piece of the same name.

Artist Type:

Ty Segall

Burying '60s sing-alongs and dance crazes beneath waves of reverb and giddy thud, Ty Segall has carved out his own shelf in the neo-psych garage alongside SF compatriots and collaborators Sic Alps and Thee Oh Sees. As an exploration of the space between Cro-Magnon fuzz and atmospheric acoustic psych, Ty Segall continues to crank out the best new garage rock from San Francisco. Ty Segall is the lead singer of Epsilons, the drummer for Traditional fools, the drummer every once in a while for Party Fowl, and as of February 2009, an occasional guitarist/drummer for Sic Alps.
