Urvi Majumdar is a Melbourne comedian on the rise, even though she’d probably make some absurd, self-deprecating joke if you mentioned it.
Having moved from India to Australia at the age of 6, Urvi has always juggled two worlds— living up to her parent’s expectations (or trying to!) whilst still trying to appear cool at all times. Urvi’s experiences add a unique flavour to her observational comedy. Balancing her dark wit and sarcasm with a contagious excitability, Urvi’s comedy values quality and connectedness above all. Her favourite drink is a sparkling red and that’s how she sees her comedy. If you haven’t tried it, go get yourself a glass!
After making it to the State finals of RAW comedy in both 2018 and 2019, Urvi went on to be hand-picked by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) for the Stand Up! Grant, awarded in conjunction with Premier Dan Andrews. For MICF 2021, Urvi did guest spots on prestigious line-up shows Up Front, Comedy Up Late, Geraldine Hickey and Friends, and 2 episodes of Comedy Rooms of Melbourne.
No stranger to sold out crowds, Urvi has also performed to packed audiences at Melbourne Writers Festival, Fringe Festival, Emerging Writers Festival and Adelaide Fringe Festival. After four highly successful shows at MICF with some of Australia’s most exciting new comics, Urvi is preparing for her greatly anticipated debut solo show Urvi Goes to an All Girls School. It will debut in 2022 starting with Adelaide Fringe Festival and MICF.
Urvi’s strength in stand-up has led to many other writing and performing opportunities on screen. She writes regularly for The Project, was in the writer's rooms for Screen Australia funded projects Emu War and Swamped, and has played Gwen Albright in two seasons of comedy series Metrosexual. Urvi also appeared as herself with her Mum in the ABC Fresh Blood series Gourmet Lazy and has had several guest spots on Triple R Radio, including a week of stepping in as a Breakfasters host.
