Powerhouse singer Tarryn Stokes captured the nations’ hearts on her journey to becoming the winner of The Voice 2023 .
Born into a musical family, Tarryn’s passion for singing was evident at a young age. Raised in the North Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, she honed her vocal skills in talent shows and community events, winning over audiences everywhere with her powerful voice.
After becoming an in-demand backing vocalist for some of the biggest names in Australian music including Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy and Delta Goodrem, and performing in cover bands and as a solo singer, Tarryn’s big break came when she decided to audition for The Voice in 2023. She stunned both audiences and the judges in her blind audition, performing a soulful version of the Sara Bareilles hit, ‘She Used to be Mine.’
Week after week, Tarryn showcased her versatility, effortlessly navigating various genres and songs from Abba’s ‘The Winner Takes it All’ to Heart’s big rock ballad ‘Alone’ and Demi Lovato’s ‘Anyone’, leaving a huge impression with each performance.
Behind the scenes, Tarryn’s dedication to her craft was unwavering but personally challenging as she came to terms with being in the spotlight – not behind it – as well as being away from her husband and two young children.
“There was a lot of preparation. It was managing the balance of life, making sure that my family were ok,” she says. “Phil is a very hands-on dad and a musician. He gets it.”
The Voice 2023 finale delivered a show stopping final performance with a phenomenal rendition of the Celine Dion classic ‘All By Myself’ plus a powerful duet with Rita Ora and as winner, she also sang her debut single ‘Nobody’.
“I loved the journey of pushing the performance level higher for my performances during each stage of the show. I felt myself getting stronger and tapping back into the experience I had over the many years of touring and performing…and I loved being surrounded by music and musicians.”
Having had time to process her win, celebrate with family and friends, Tarryn is full steam into her next chapter!
“Now I’ve got a record label, a recording contract, management. I’m excited to make music. I feel like I am working hard with the right team at exactly the right time in my life and balancing that with being a present mum.”
Tarryn will release her version of Silent Night (December 15) for the festive season and is currently working on 2024 plans for new music.
“I want to achieve it all really. Write lullabies for kids, dive into recording music I love, have career in music and try to be an inspiring mum. It’s never too late to go for your dreams,” she says, smiling. “I feel like it’s the right time. I feel like I’m confident to be me.”
