Spyndrift are a highly theatrical quirky quartet who plays an intoxicating range of musical styles from dub-ska to circus-cabaret.
Their dynamic musical performance is complete with eccentric characters in lavish costumery, vintage-inspired props and shadow screen, which illuminate dancer and frontwoman Elle Wood’s enchanting and playful antics with twirling parasols and Parisian vaudevillian hi-jinx. Spyndrift fire the audience’s imagination with their ebullient style, original music and song crafting.
They have a growing following after five consecutive years at Apollo Bay Music Festival, sell-out shows at The Butterfly Club, Folk Rhythm and Life Festival, Rainbow Serpent Festival and touring the east coast in mid 2013. Spyndrift has a hugely supportive Facebook community, are well loved on the Festival circuit and are celebrated for their feel-good, make-you-wanna-dance vibe.
In 2010 they took out top prize at Vic Hunt Memorial Music Awards at the
Sleepy Hollow Blues Club, Geelong.
Their film clips Like a Kyte and Pandora’s Box illustrate the theatrical and sometimes suggestive nature of this act and what you can expect to see in their show.
Spyndrifts albums ‘Soundswell’ and ‘Positive Charge’ exhibit a strong connection with the natural world. The songs reveal a passion that is diverse and extraordinary, radical yet reflective.
Born out of the Victorian Otways in 2004, Spyndrift’s original members Hoya Wolfgang, Elle Wood,
Merin Trebilcock and Richard Collopy bring a depth of musical colour and performance experience to the stage with more than 20 years in the music/performance industry. Brothers Hoya and Merin grew up in an artistic based commune in South Western Victoria and are forever influenced by the visual and performing arts, while drummer Richard brings a cultural diversity and strong connection-to-country and performance.
