Gotye

Gotye is Aussie Belgian Wally De Backer. He plays drums, percussion and piano, and he writes, sings and produces tracks at his home, currently in Victoria, Australia. Gotye's sound is a melting pot of samples from sources far and wide, mixed with Wally's vocals and home recorded sounds to form original songs that are as likely to channel '80s New Romantic pop or '60s Motown soul as they are to be experiments in kooky turntablism or progressive trip-hop landscapes.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre

The Brian Jonestown Massacre was formed in San Francisco in 1990. The band has had over 40 members since then, but its driving force and main songwriter is Anton Newcombe. Other prominent members have included Matt Hollywood, Dean Taylor, Jeff Davies, Brian Glaze, and Joel Gion. Their sound is heavily influenced by the psychedelic sounds of the 1960s, but also carries influences from shoegaze, jangle pop, garage rock, and lo-fi sonorities.

Epithets

Epithets is a collective-type arrangement led by Nick Smethurst, formerly of Let's Not (but say we did) and Mr. Maps, and presently also of Carry Nation and Lion Island . For the self-titled debut release, the ensemble of players is made up of current or former members of Let's Not (but say we did), To the North, Carry Nation, Lion Island, Rialto Decibel Choir, The Paper and The Plane, chalkandcheese and others. Beirut

The EPs and the albums by Beirut are largely the work of Zach Condon, a young Santa Fe, New Mexico native. Condon has recorded before: when he was fifteen and under the name of Realpeople, he made an electronic record, fashioned after his love for The Magnetic Fields. Condon was a straight-A student until he dropped out at the age of 17 to travel Europe with his cousin in a drunken haze, cavorting and partying with the locals wherever he ended up.
