Big Moist and the Smoking Durries

Big Moist and the Smoking Durries are 3 geezers and a gal from the suburbs of Naarm/Melbourne, Australia, who love singing about beers and having a right good old time!

With hints of indie tones and shameful confessions, BMSD continue to staple themselves on the Aussie music scene, with their ecstatic, hard-hitting and carefree aesthetic coupled with some of the most relatable tracks ever written!

The Valiants

The Valiants are an explosive 5 piece Indie/Alt Rock outfit, sprouting from the hills of East Melbourne. With influences ranging from Arctic Monkeys to AC/DC, they bring a unique sound to the Melbourne rock scene. Punchy drums, groovy bass lines, duelling guitar riffs, and soaring keys are what you can expect from these boys as they tear up stages near you.

David M. Western

Day-dreaming, whimsical and deft. A young country boy David M. Western delivers a special new sound with quiet profound lyricism and powerful, distinct musical arrangements. Born and raised in the shadows of The Grampians, Victoria, David honed his performance skills playing the local pubs before even considering becoming this strange, ethereal, ghostly thing - a ‘songwriter’. Now, having only been writing songs for some five years, it’s alarming that he has earned a reputation as one of Australia’s up and coming artists.

Since playing shows in Melbourne in 2015, David has been catapulted to the forefront of Australia’s songwriter scene as he continues to interrogate what it means to be a

songwriter. Always searching for ways to take strange ideas and make them work, David’s next step is the release of his latest single ‘Instant Life’.

With only two singles released to his name; 'Step On My Toes' the DIY, one-take shedding of fears about floating through life; and 'Gallery', the lush, expansive and harsh lambasting of ‘phony culture’. These tracks alone have garnered praise from the music industry and sent him to sharing the stage with some of Australia’s finest songwriters (Julia Jacklin, Spacey Jane, Rat!Hammock, Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird).

David M Western

David M Western returns with a national tour in support of the stunning and reflective new album ‘On, On & On’ - out 20 Oct 2023 on Cheersquad Records & Tapes on vinyl and digital.

A depth and a quiet pull is found in the music of David M Western. Even his hell-storm, stadium-filling country-rock numbers can deliver a gut punch you never saw coming. Moments of reflection, cutting witicism and strange comically driven anecdotes will be thrown at you from every direction. David M Western will be simultaneously driving you while keeping you calm from the passenger seat.

Having got his start as a musician hopping bars playing bass or guitar for bands in the thriving Melbourne folk-rock and country scene, David has now stepped into the spotlight leading his own band of world class Australian session musicians.

Building on his growing reputation from debut 2022 album titled ‘Child Mind’, Western observes through an even more incisive and soul-searching magnifying glass on his latest release, the vast, reflective and tender album ‘On, On & On.’.

In the lead up to the release of ‘On, On & On’, David has played to packed rooms each week as part of his residency at the now cult-icon Melbourne pub ‘The Gem’, played to a sold out album launch show at The Old Bar, toured in support of Ella Hooper (Killing Heidi) and signed to Melbourne indie label ‘Cheersquad Records & Tapes’.

Written and recorded within roughly three months, recorded almost entirely live and with minimal overdubbing, ‘On, On & On’ will floor listeners, enjoying at first the quality of songwriting and excitement within the songs, yet returning for the emotional connection they will find within the lyrics.

Me In A Dream

Me In A Dream is a 3 piece indie rock band from Melbourne, Australia. Drawing on influences from the Brit alt-rock scene, including Foals, Doves, White Lies and Bloc Party, then injecting thoughtful melodies and an occasional, but distinctly Australian psychedelic edge reminiscent of Holy Holy and The Belligerents, Me In A Dream carves out a unique sound that dances freely across genre boundaries. The project was conceived by the deep voiced frontman Chris Pehrson, inspired by a strange fan message from a previous project claiming to have been visited by an angel in a dream with a request to help him. Whilst on an intense, lockdown induced songwriting binge, it became clear that the songs deserved to be performed with the energy of a live band. The addition of drummer Mark Eaves and bassist Sienna Armstrong has transformed Me In A Dream into an engaging and energetic force. Me In A Dream released an electronic infused EP ‘Time’ at the end of 2020. Now they are ready to light up the stages of Melbourne with a rockier and more organic sound.

MAGIC DIRT

Magic Dirt are an Australian rock band fronted by Adalita. Formed in 1992 in Geelong, Victoria, they are currently on hiatus following the tragic death of bassist Dean Turner to cancer. They are one of the longest running, critically acclaimed (although far from commercially successful) bands to have come out of the Australian music scene.

Magic Dirt have released 8 albums and 3 EPs during their career, balancing a fine line between improvisational noise and alternative rock, and remaining a staple of influential radio station Triple J.

Dean Turner's death both shocked and united the entire Australian music industry. Following Turner's death Magic Dirt performed a final tour in honour of his memory. They also released a six-track EP, White Boy, as a tribute. As from 2011, the band is on hiatus with no immediate plans to tour or record. In March 2011, Adalita spoke about Magic Dirt when promoting her solo album, "No, no we've not retired. There's none of that at the moment. We're just taking some time off the road, but we do have some plans. We've got a lot of work to do, and a big legacy to fulfill".

Srsen has since embarked on a successful solo career and guitarist Raul Sánchez formed a new band, River of Snakes.. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
