Darky Roots (dR) have bubbled to the top of the Brisbane Roots scene with their tight Aotearoa reggae sound and immaculate harmonies. dR are a 6 piece roots reggae movement formed in mid 2008 based in Brisbane made up of cats from all around Aotearoa, Mataio Uri,Josh Hillman from Palmerston North city, Paul Hillman from Friendly Feilding,Clem Karauti from Tat nth Auckland, Bevan Savage from Tokoroa, and Ali Files from Marton. dR original sound stems from the foundations of heavy roots drum and bass mashed with sweet 3 piece harmonies catchy melodies and concious lyrics.

Jimmy Cliff

Jimmy Cliff OM (born James Chambers, 1 April 1948, St Catherine, Jamaica) is a Jamaican reggae musician. He is best known among mainstream audiences for songs like "Sittin' in Limbo", "You Can Get It If You Really Want" and "Many Rivers to Cross" from The Harder They Come, a film soundtrack which helped popularise reggae across the world. Cliff moved to Kingston in 1962. After he released two singles that failed to make much of an impression...

Michael Franti & Spearhead

Michael Franti is a gifted and much-heralded spoken word artist and political activist from San Francisco, CA. As leader of the politically and socially-charged group Spearhead, Franti is at the forefront of hip-hop's renaissance, expanding the music's boundaries as he draws on funk and soul-driven beats. Through his music and poetry, Franti tackles a range of issues--the criminal justice system, corporatization of our daily lives, AIDS, gay rights, homelessness, the death penalty, drug addiction and suicide.

King Tide

KING TIDE was formed in early 2004 after a successful reggae jam between vocalist Tony Hughes and ‘toaster’ Sean Collins. During a live show in Sydney, the band was spotted by advertising executives who asked them to record a cover of Toots and the Maytals’ “Broadway Jungle” for a Sony TV ad campaign. The band released the cover as a full length single ‘No Dog War’, which received national airplay.

Spearhead

There are, at least, three artists with the name Spearhead: 1) A UK metal band. 2) '90s hip-hop project, of US singer-songwriter Michael Franti. SEE MICHAEL FRANTI'S PAGES SEPARATELY. 3) A UK RAC band. 1) A UK black/death metal band formed in 2005. Their first album, ‘Deathless Steel Command’, is essentially a raw & fast death metal album with a black metal atmosphere/feeling. It was first released in 2005 on tape, but released shortly afterwards on CD format through Invictus Productions (Ireland).

The Beautiful Girls

The beautiful girls are an Australian band from the New South Wales coast composed of Mat McHugh on vocals and guitar, Paulie B on bass and Bruce Braybrooke on drums. TBG have released three full length albums: Learn Yourself, We're Already Gone and Ziggurats; as well as one EP, Morning Sun, TBG have an eclectic style of their own, with smatterings of rock, acoustic, reggae, pop and folk all through their music. Many people find elements of artists such as Ben Harper, Jack Johnson and The Police.
