Their music has been described as a cross between Hüsker Dü and Motörhead, a notable element being Stubbs' rasping, "gravelly" vocals. They were known for their extremely energetic stage shows which hearkened back to the 1980s hardcore scene. Founded by Jim Ward (guitars) & Cedric Bixler Zavala (vocals - at the time a member of punk band, foss, in which he played drums). Rival Schools is a Post Hardcore band from New York, United States that was formed in 1999 by members from several influential 80's and 90's hardcore bands (including Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand, CIV, Youth of Today, Burn, Project X, Judge, Moondog, Warzone, Side By Side and Iceburn). The band started from the ashes of a short lived project, World's Fastest Car which had Artie Shepard of Mind Over Matter and Bad Trip fame involved, but the project went no further than demos. Behind Crimson Eyes are an Australian post-hardcore rock band from Melbourne, Victoria. Their debut album attempted a more mainstream direction compared to their previous two EP releases, featuring heavy rock mixed with elements of the mainstream idea of screamo, pop and, allegedly, metal. Since forming in 2004, they have played the Melbourne leg of the Taste of Chaos tour in 2005, after which they sold out all but one show on their national headline tour, clocking up over 150 shows in 2005.
