Tom Fisher aka Tempa has been quietly building himself a reputation as the one of the most exciting new producers in the east of England. He broke onto the UK Hip-Hop scene in 2004 as a guest producer on the debut LP by Suffolk hopefuls Vinyl Dialect (Bad Magic). Émilie Simon is a French singer and composer born on July 17, 1978 in Montpellier. She began her musical education at a French conservatory at 7 years old. By age 18, she was studying Musicology at the University in Montpellier, France, and then obtained her Master in Musicology at the Sorbonne in Paris. Émilie was intrigued by the idea of combining her traditional musical education with new music technologies and studio experimentations.
Producer and DJ, Jacques Renault, was a post-punk Washington D.C. native who moved to Chicago in 1997 to continue his studies of viola, but in turn got an education in dance music. Tapping into the well established Drum n' Bass scene, he held a residency at Smart Bar and became a buyer at the legendary Gramaphone Records. This broad, raw exposure to House lead him straight back to the classics of Disco and to it's heart, New York City, where he landed in 2002.
Considered a prominent figure in the development of instrumental hip-hop, DJ Shadow (real name Josh Davis) has proven himself with groundbreaking, genre-defining solo output on such respected labels as Solesides and Mo' Wax. Although Shadow's earlier works, especially 'Endtroducing.....', are known for their innovation in genres such as hip-hop, ambient, and trip-hop, his latest album, The Outsider, had several tracks dedicated to Hyphy.
The Savages was a 60s psychedelic garage band from India. Founded in 1967 by Bashir Sheikh, the Savages went beyond playing cover versions, and started writing their own material.They recorded their first EP with HMV in 1967, the first album that came out of this Polydor contract was titled The Savages, Live, containing mostly cover versions, and one original composition titled "PIO". Sometime back in the mid-90s a fresh faced Brazilian ex-pat living in the UK decided he was going to put down his harmonica, pick up a sampler, and name himself after a Stephen King novel. The resulting album, Cujo's Adventures in Foam (released on Ninebar records, later reissued on Ninja Tune) signalled Amon Tobin's entry into the world of music. Immediately upon hearing this record, the powers that be at Ninja Tune signed him up to record as Amon Tobin, and he quickly went to work on his debut Bricolage.
Death in Vegas are a psychedelic rock and electronic band from the United Kingdom, currently comprising two permanent members: Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes. Influenced by a wide range of musical genres including psychedelic rock, electro, krautrock, dub and industrial, the band's sound is constantly in flux, moving between live acoustic and electronic sounds. The band was formed in 1994 by Fearless and Steve Helier and signed to Concrete Records under the name of Dead Elvis.
DJ Krush (Hideaki Ishii) was born in 1962 in Tokyo. At an early age, Ishii dropped out of school, and joined a local gang, and a few years later, Yakuza. After watching the film 'Wild Style' in the early '80s, he was inspired, bought himself a set of turntables, and began to learn the art of turntablism. In 1987, he formed the KRUSH POSSE, which made numerous appearances as a group in late 1992 which gave him recognition for becoming the first DJ in Japan to perform with live musicians.
UNKLE, a musical outfit founded in 1994 in London, England, United Kingdom. Originally categorized as trip-hop, the group once included producer DJ Shadow and has employed a variety of guest artists and producers. From the sleeve notes for the latest release End Titles...Stories For Film released in July 2008, the current line-up is stated as James Lavelle and Pablo Clements, also a member of the Psychonauts.
